AQUAPONICS
Aquaponics is a food production system that combines aquaculture (raising aquatic animals such as fish, crayfish, snails or prawns in tanks) with hydroponics (cultivating plants in water) whereby the nutrient-rich aquaculture water is fed to hydroponically grown plants. This system is a sustainable and efficient way of producing food, as it requires less water and land than traditional farming methods. Aquaponics is used to grow a variety of crops, including lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and herbs, as well as fish such as tilapia, trout, and catfish. The system is also used in urban agriculture, where it can be implemented in small spaces such as balconies, rooftops, and basements. Aquaponics is a relatively new technology, but it has gained popularity in recent years due to its potential to provide fresh produce and fish year-round, regardless of the weather conditions.
